Dance of DEATH

[ According to an article in "Geographical" magazine (April 2008), the Indian Ocean tsunami of December 26, 2004 was one of the most deadliest natural disasters ever in history of mankind. The 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake was an undersea earthquake that occurred at 00:58:53 GMT on December 26, 2004, with an epicentre off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. The earthquake was caused by subduction and triggered a series of devastating tsunamis along the coasts of most landmasses bordering the Indian Ocean, killing nearly 300,000 people with many bodies either being lost to the sea (or unidentified ) in eleven countries, and inundating coastal communities with waves up to 30 meters (100 feet) high.Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, and Thailand were hardest hit.

With a magnitude of between 9.1 and 9.3, it is the second largest earthquake ever recorded on a seismograph. This earthquake had the longest duration of faulting ever observed, between 8.3 and 10 minutes. It caused the entire planet to vibrate as much as 1 cm (0.5 inches) and triggered other earthquakes as far away as Alaska.
The plight of the many affected people and countries prompted a widespread humanitarian response. In all, the worldwide community donated more than $7 billion (2004 U.S. dollars) in humanitarian aid.

The poem is an attempt to relive the agony the hundreds of thousands of people went through before succumbing to nature’s fury.

This poem is dedicated to the victims of TSUNAMI ]

The much-awaited Christmas had arrived,
And the world was overflowing in the great river of joy.
Unaware of the coming tomorrow.
Which would be the blackest day in the history of Mankind.

The jubilant kids with innocent desires,
Prayed to their dear Santa to visit them.
Their impeccable hearts were the most admirable.
Which pulled Santa to their dreamland of all the riches.

The fathers became Santas,
Making the kids go crazy!!
And every soul on that glorious night had a dream of Utopia.
Unaware that the future of the world is hazy.

Now came the turn of someone abstract, yet too real.
Someone who every living thing dreads.
And every inanimate thing enjoys.
The five-lettered king of the dark side of Life-DEATH!!!

The world knows that he needs no ‘invitations’.
And this time he didn’t need it either.
As he never cares to bother,
And the ways of whom materializing here was beyond everyone’s imaginations.

And he was ‘hungry’.
It was a long time since he had a feast.
He badly needed one- to survive.
And he had chosen his day of ‘celebration’.

The early morning-post Christmas day,
Which left everyone with no other way
But to be the hapless prey to the inevitable trap
Of the ruthless ruler of the abiotic kingdom.

The shock was too big to realize.
The entire towns being washed out in the gigantic waves.
The houses destroyed, the families shattered.
The destiny’s play was too complex to analyse.

Thousands dead; others who remained, more dead than alive.
With their loved ones taken away
By the super human sea to ‘feed’ the ‘DEATH ;
To keep him alive.

A family of four- parents and two kids had gone to the beach,
To celebrate their Xmas holidays.
The little boy was quite far from the reach
Of the silent shore where his little sis, mom and dad were playing.

The tiny wave from the heart of the sea
Was growing in size with no one to see.
His Mom, dad and sis were still reveling the moment of joy
And the little boy too was lost in his own world.

The once ‘little’ wave was now as high as a big tower.
Just behind the great family, where it was standing.
The kid was now screaming at his peak motionless.
They were horror-stricken as they realized their inescapable situation.
Within seconds, after a thunderous explosion, the monster wave had gone, taking along with it the great family.

This was just one family among the 280,000 dead,
When the deadly TSUNAMI devastated the world.
World mourned the tragedy
Which was the biggest in human history.

If GOD is ‘still’ there - the eternal omniscient,
Why didn’t he save his creations?
Why didn’t he become invisible to everyone?
Perhaps he was watching the “dance of DEATH”….

This is so true. The last poem was about nature being a true patriot and its effects in the poem. The poems are very true in their own way being their best at the same test. The poem reflects the very facts of the nature.

A perfect title like Dance of Death is so suitable and so correct for the poem. All in all a wonderful poem.

I must santosh u should have gone into the poetry field as u can express your feelings in better words rather the best words The best part is those are the feelings which everybody feel and probably dont or can not express them out. A serious appreciation and reward from my side. (The reward will be sent to u soon by a courier company whcih will start very soon he eh !!! kidding).

Keep posting such poems in the blogs.

Just like it can make things grow and prosper, Mother Nature can also punish man for his wrong doings.

Given a dream, I'd love to be in a world which values even the tiniest of things in nature. The Rain, The Wind, The Sun, The Trees, The Earth, everything.

After all, it's duty to take care of our Mother Nature, just as we care our mothers.

[b]Realy heart touching poem of santu..the use of words and emotions are excellent..of very high quality..and the name is very apt for the poem.

its so true that if nature[god] gets angry then humans cant take its fury, so we have to treat the nature around us in a good manner..

i hope this christmas gone well and lets mourn for the dead..[b]
